A few days ago at the "AGIOS LOUKAS" Clinic, a 49-year-old patient was treated, who was diagnosed with melanoma in the lung, a very rare malignancy of the thoracic cage. <\/p>\n
The operation was performed thoracoscopically by Thoracic Surgeon Dr. Michael Klimatsidas and his team.<\/p>\n
The patient was diagnosed with this malignancy two years ago and lately she has been suffering from recurring malignant pleural effusions, a fact which shows that the disease is progressing and infiltrating parts of the chest, as a result of which the pleural fluid that we all have in the chest cavity increases and cannot be absorbed. <\/p>\n
Dr. Michael Klimatsidas and his team were able to enter the chest thoracoscopically through a two-centimeter incision, locate the lesions, and place some drainage tubes to drain the fluid collection for a period of time until it was absorbed. <\/p>\n
