A few days ago at the "AGIOS LOUKAS" Clinic, a 49-year-old patient was treated, who was diagnosed with melanoma in the lung, a very rare malignancy of the thoracic cage.
The operation was performed thoracoscopically by Thoracic Surgeon Dr. Michael Klimatsidas and his team.
The patient was diagnosed with this malignancy two years ago and lately she has been suffering from recurring malignant pleural effusions, a fact which shows that the disease is progressing and infiltrating parts of the chest, as a result of which the pleural fluid that we all have in the chest cavity increases and cannot be absorbed.
Dr. Michael Klimatsidas and his team were able to enter the chest thoracoscopically through a two-centimeter incision, locate the lesions, and place some drainage tubes to drain the fluid collection for a period of time until it was absorbed.
At the "AGIOS LOUKAS" Clinic, the entire range of thoracic surgery is performed with minimally invasive methods.
In the last three years, the rate of Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery at the Clinic is over 95%, a rate unique for the entire Greek territory. With this method, no large incisions are made in the operating rooms and the patient is not burdened.
