TUMOR REMOVAL: SURGICAL OPTIONS AND MANAGEMENT

Thoracic cavity tumors may be located in the lungs, mediastinum, chest wall, or pleura and may be either benign or malignant. Surgical removal is often the main treatment option, either as a monotherapy or in combination with other methods, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy.

Modern minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as robotics and thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), have significantly improved the effectiveness of the operation, while reducing the risk of complications and recovery time.

THE lobectomy is one of the most common procedures for removing malignant lung tumors, as it involves the removal of a lobe of the lung. In cases of small tumors, it can be performed wedge resection, i.e. removal of only the affected part or anatomical segmentectomy that is, resection of part of the lobe but anatomically for cases of small lung cancer nodules.

For more extensive tumors, it may be necessary pneumonectomy, the removal of the entire lung which can be done – under certain conditions – minimally invasively, i.e. thoracoscopically or robotically assisted. The tumors of mediastinal, such as thymomas or neurogenic neoplasms, are usually treated with surgical removal via robotic thoracic surgery or VATS, offering high precision and less surgical trauma.

The volumes of chest wall They may be primary or metastatic and are treated with surgical excision, while in some cases, reconstruction of the chest wall is also required to maintain chest stability.

The management of these tumors requires an individualized approach, which depends on the type, size and location of the tumor, as well as the general condition of the patient. The use of minimally invasive techniques reduces pain, hospitalization time and postoperative trauma, offering patients a better quality of life. It is now possible to resect tumors and ribs thoracoscopically and robotically. It is very important to apply the most modern surgical techniques for the safe and effective removal of thoracic tumors.

Whether it is lung tumors, mediastinal masses or chest wall conditions, our personalized approach ensures optimal treatment. Contact us for a comprehensive medical evaluation.
